Dr. Shahram Rahimi is currently the Department Head and a Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in the Bagley College of Engineering at Mississippi State University. For the six years prior to this appointment, he was Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science at Southern Illinois University (SIU). Dr. Rahimi has extensive background in both academia and industry. He is a recognized leader in artificial intelligence with over 200 peer-reviewed publications and several patents or pending patents in this area. Dr. Rahimi has served as the editor-in-chief and editorial board member of several journals in his area of research and is a member of IEEE New Standards Committee in Computational Intelligence.
Additionally, he and his team developed a Game Theory/Machine Learning Hybrid System which is regularly used for decision support in foreign policy. His intelligence algorithm for patient flow optimization and staffing is currently used in over 800 Emergency Departments across the nation and was named top 10 AI technology for healthcare in 2018. Over the past two decades, Dr. Rahimi has also organized many conferences on Artificial Intelligence and multi-agent systems and has served as Principal Investigator for several federally and industry funded research projects.
